Anonymous: Your blog is really inspiring :) I'm on my way to become a wiccan but there are a few really simple things I just can't seem to find anything about..1. After a formal ritual is completed, what are you supposed to do with the protecting circle? I don't like to work with an athame, and I often don't use a physical circle as well if I am at home. I just "draw it" with my mind and hand. How do I "open" it correctly? And 2. How to clean ritual candles? I can't just use them right away, can I? Thanks!
I simply open and close it with my mind. Find out what works for you. There are no set rules that you must abide by when casting a circle. If you find somehing that says that you must do it, it’s probably not a very reliable source. Try out a few mothods and go with whatever feels best. For opening the circle, I spin three times with sage and call it good. For closing, I usually just say “I now close the circle.” It’s not fancy, no calling on deities or anything, but it works because I believe it does.
I cleanse everything on my altar every few months by running the items over incense smoke. Other methods of cleaning are dipping items in water that has been blessed or letting them sit in the moon’s light. Here are some other ideas :)
